Job Overview
Independent on highway maintenance facility seeking a motivated and skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice in their fourth year of training to join our team. This hands-on role offers an opportunity to develop mechanical skills. As a key member of our service team, you will gain practical experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty on highway vehicles, ensuring optimal performance and safety. This is designed to enhance your technical expertise while contributing to the efficient operation of our shop. Wages dependent on experience. Monday - Friday dayshift only, no weekends.
Duties
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues on highway tractors and trailers using schematics and diagnostic tools
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections on equipment
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other mechanical devices to repair or assemble components
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used for each machine
- Collaborate with senior mechanics to troubleshoot electrical systems and mechanical failures on equipment
- Computer diagnostics on Cat and Cummins engines
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or completing the fourth year of a Heavy Duty Mechanic apprenticeship program or equivalent technical training
- Proven experience or hands-on work with highway equipment is highly desirable
- Familiarity with schematics, electrical systems, welding techniques, and assembly processes
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate heavy equipment as needed
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
- Good communication skills with a customer service-oriented mindset

Pay: $38.00-$45.00 per hour
