About the Role
Times: 37.5 hours between Monday to Saturday 8:30-4:30
This position reports to the Executive Director. The Career Advisor is embedded in team that supports the expansion and enhancement of programs and services. This role requires specialist knowledge in both the pathways to licensure and alternative career pathways for ITPs. As such, candidates require progressive experience supporting ITPs, community partners and key stakeholders. This position requires a high level of collaboration with other team members, as well as partners from industry, non-profit and government sectors.
This position assumes the primary responsibility for building relationships with clients to identify needs on a one-to-one basis and developing resources, training and other supports to facilitate integration through information and orientation, employment related services, and community connections. In addition to researching and developing resources, the Advisor facilitates information sessions to support clients’ knowledge of programs and services, finding employment, and provincial/national requirements to licensure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Advisor’s role is divided across four key areas: 1) One-to-one sessions with clients; 2) Development and delivery of workshops in the areas of information and orientation and employment related services to support integration into healthcare via licensure and alternative career pathways; 3) Relationship building with community partners to deliver relevant sessions; and 4) Contributing to data collection, reporting, and future planning for AIMGA’s growth.
Responsibilities:
One-to-One Sessions with Clients (50%):
- Conduct one-to-one consultations with clients to assess their educational background, training, work experience, and career goals.
- Identify strengths and barriers to integration into healthcare, offering referrals for additional support.
- Guide clients through the application processes for licensure pathways (CaRMS, ACSAP, PRA routes) and employment goals.
- Ensure completeness of client profiles and follow up on next steps.
- Orient clients to ITPHub's website resources.
- Identify areas requiring further information and support.
Development and Delivery of Workshops (25%):
- Create and deliver workshops that empower clients to make informed career choices.
- Conduct information and orientation sessions on licensure pathways, including PRA routes across Canada (PRA-AB, PRA-BC, SIPPA, MLP-IMG), application to AIMGP, BC-CAP, CaRMS, and ACSAP.
- Facilitate workshops supporting applications to CaRMS using the CaRMS Preparation Program and other relevant resources.
- Develop workshops aligned with clients' employment goals to facilitate integration into healthcare.
Contributing to Data Collection, Reporting, and Future Planning (25%):
- Enter data on client profiles, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct necessary follow-ups and contribute to organization-wide follow-up efforts semi-annually.
- Assist in participant tracking and narrative reporting and support the organization’s future growth and proposal development.
Qualifications:
Education:
A postsecondary degree, preferably a master’s degree, focusing on adult education, social work, community development, or instructional design. A combination of relevant experience and education will be considered.
Other:
- Progressive experience supporting clients, teaching/facilitating, career advising, and/or career development.
- Experience working with highly skilled and educated newcomers.
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, catering to diverse audiences at various organizational levels, government entities, and the community.
- Fluency in French is considered a valuable asset in our commitment to providing inclusive services.
- Proven ability to foster collaboration, build partnerships, and work diplomatically with diverse audiences.
- Understanding of adult learning pedagogy with contributions to learning outcomes, assessment strategies, and critical reflection prompts and activities.
- Highly skilled in interpersonal, organizational, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to set work-related priorities and meet collaborative team and individual plans deadlines.
- Evidence of personal leadership, self-motivation, and an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Proven ability to comfortably and effectively engage with diverse cultures.
