VICTIM SUPPORT WORKER
Six Month Contract– Edmonton Alberta

Native Counselling Services of Alberta’s mission is to promote the resilience of the Indigenous individual and family, through programs and services that are grounded in reclaiming our interconnectedness, reconciliation of relationships and self determination.
Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA) Victim Support Worker will work directly with the Urban Indigenous Peacemaker Program and Indigenous Court Worker services with a focus on creating victim-centered resources and navigating access to community supports for individuals impacted by the justice system.
Specific responsibilities of the position include:

To work collaboratively with the Indigenous Court Worker program and the Peacemaker Program.

To engage in established collaborative relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, victim services, police, courts, crown prosecutors and other community supports and organizations.

To develop and maintain relevant resource materials including information packages, safety planning tools, referral guides and educational materials.
Our ideal candidate would have the following qualifications: [

In-depth experience and working knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures healing and language.

Demonstrated understanding of historic trauma and the impact of colonization on Indigenous people.

Post secondary experience in the social service field or equivalency or, extensive working history with Indigenous individuals.

Knowledge of Restorative Justice or Peacemaker Circle process is an asset.

Experience working with victims and survivors in a professional service delivery setting is an asset.

Proficient in the use of grammar, spelling and punctuation in the English language.

Working with Indigenous individuals and a range of diverse cultures.

Ability to work flexible hours, travel as maybe required and work independently.

Ability to seek out and establish professional relationships and contacts with individuals and organizations.

Possess effective communication, decision making, problem solving and time management skills.

Must work efficiently and effectively as part of the team across the organization with significant communication, interpersonal and documentation skills both oral and written.

Possess knowledge and working experience and understanding of Microsoft office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Must be able to send team email invitation and track replies.

Must present a professional appearance, set respectful boundaries and behaviours suitable for work.

Must provide criminal record and child intervention checks prior to hire.

Must have a reliable vehicle, valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract, required liability insurance and confirmation of coverage for work.
Starting salary Six Month Contract- $25,000.00 -$30,000.00
