Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated BNA Housing Support Worker to deliver culturally grounded housing and homelessness prevention services within our community.
This role is part of a community-led initiative supported through Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy and the Ontario First Nations Reaching Home Initiative.
The successful candidate will work directly with members and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, providing case management, housing navigation, and culturally safe support services rooted in Indigenous values and teachings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one housing case management and support planning
- Assist clients in securing and maintaining safe, stable housing
- Deliver homelessness prevention supports (eviction prevention, rent supports, referrals)
- Conduct community outreach to identify and support vulnerable individuals
- Coordinate with landlords, service providers, and community programs
- Facilitate access to mental health, addictions, and social services
- Integrate cultural supports, including collaboration with Elders and participation in ceremonies
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to program reporting (e.g., HIFIS or similar systems)
- Support community engagement activities, workshops, and sharing circles
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience working in housing, homelessness, or social services
- Strong understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, and community dynamics
- Knowledge of Housing First and trauma-informed approaches
- Experience working with individuals facing mental health, substance use, or trauma-related challenges
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the community
