About Care Systems
At Care Systems Services Ltd., it’s more than just a name. Since 1992, our mission has been to help commercial clients maximize the comfort, longevity, and efficiency of their buildings. We deliver unparalleled service in mechanical maintenance and innovative building automation systems (DDC). Our culture is built on the C.A.R.E. philosophy: Customer Satisfaction, Attention to Detail, Reliable Service, and Exceeding Expectations.
If you are a motivated, eager-to-learn apprentice who takes pride in high-quality workmanship and wants to develop your skills working with advanced systems alongside top-tier professionals, we want you on our team.
The Role
We are seeking a 2nd to 4th Year HVAC Service Apprentice to join our growing team in the Okanagan Region (i.e. Vernon, Kelowna, Salmon Arm, Kamloops). In this role, you will work under the guidance of experienced Journeypersons while developing your skills in diagnosing, servicing, and maintaining a wide variety of commercial HVAC systems. You will gain hands-on exposure to advanced mechanical systems and our Building Automation team, setting a solid foundation for your career.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose & Repair: Assist with and learn to identify, troubleshoot, and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues on commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The scope and independence of your diagnostic responsibilities will increase as you progress through your apprenticeship.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform detailed preventative maintenance inspections, routine servicing, and system adjustments to ensure optimal equipment longevity and minimize client downtime.
- Installations & Retrofits: Work alongside journeypersons to execute professional installation and equipment retrofits of commercial HVAC units, refrigeration systems, and/or related system piping.
- New Construction Projects: Assist with new commercial construction projects as required by project demands.
- System Collaboration: Collaborate with our DDC/Building Automation technicians to learn about and help optimize automated HVAC controls (an interest in or exposure to systems like WebCTRL is a significant asset).
- Team Communication: Communicate effectively, proactively, and professionally with dispatchers, supervisors, and fellow team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Client Relations: Live out the C.A.R.E. acronym by communicating politely and clearly with property managers and building owners, projecting professionalism on every job site.
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately complete and submit digital service reports, work orders, safety logs, and time-tracking documentation on time.
What You Bring
- Apprenticeship Status: Currently registered as a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Year Apprentice in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanics (SkilledTradesBC).

- Experience: Previous experience working on commercial or light commercial mechanical systems, with a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Skills: Solid foundational knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems. A strong desire to learn digital controls and building management systems.
- Safety First: A clean commercial driving record and a commitment to safety protocols, workplace hazards, and procedures.
- Mindset: A customer-focused attitude, excellent attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to take direction well while working as part of a collaborative team.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid BC driver's licence with a clean driving record
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under supervision and independently as skills progress

- Mobility: Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and working in tight, confined spaces or mechanical rooms.
- Heights: Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and commercial rooftops in various weather conditions.
Work Environment
- Travel: Daily travel to various client sites within the local service region.
