Job Summary
The Paramedic Skills & Clinical Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality practical and clinical instruction that prepares students for successful careers in Primary Care Paramedicine. This role provides hands-on skills training, facilitates clinical placements, evaluates student performance, and mentors learners throughout their educational journey. Working closely with the Campus Director, Regional Clinical Coordinator, and healthcare partners, the instructor ensures students meet curriculum objectives, professional competencies, and industry standards while fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
1.0 Understand and ensure the proper protocols are followed as they pertain to;
a. Student Workplace Health and Safety
b. Infectious Disease Control
c. Patient Confidentiality
d. Scope of Practice
2.0 Verify that placement students have appropriate hospital clearance and student photo ID
3.0 Review CTS policy and procedures pertaining to placement
4.0 Inform students of their assigned station or any changes to their assigned station
5.0 Identify staff person for reviewing the National Occupational Competency Profile
6.0 Monitor student activities and maintain contact with students throughout the day to ensure a positive learning environment and minimum disruption to the institution
7.0 Progress reviews
a. Review the following with students on clinical days;
i. Signs and symptoms
ii. Pertinent history
iii. Medications and pharmacology
iv. Differential diagnosis based on S/S and Hx
v. Discussion of simulated treatments as they pertain to the scope of practices of paramedics
vi. Discussion of presentations other than those diagnosed
vii. Other outcomes as presented
8.0 Wrap up
a. Ensure clinical personnel of the medical facility has signed off on the competencies
b. Assist the students in logging their National Occupational Competency Profile
9.0 Participate in student graduations and functions.
10.0 Other duties as assigned
Skills Instruction Duties
1.0 Incorporate various techniques in implementing the education/practical material as required;
2.0 Have a sound knowledge of the course in which instruction is being given;
3.0 Provide signoff on the Instructor Signoff Sheet confirming that all objectives have been met for that Lesson Plan;
4.0 Provide constructive feedback to the PCP Program Coordinator on course and program improvements as required;
5.0 Demonstrate an ability to ascertain the learning needs of the Instructor’s students and develop appropriate activities to properly instruct the students;
6.0 Organize and effectively use classroom time;
7.0 Use the appropriate level and form of language so as to effectively communicate with the student;
8.0 Use instruction techniques/methods that recognize and take into account needs and learning capacities of students;
9.0 Be able to modify techniques during instruction in response to the needs of the students;
10.0 Assist students in developing efficient learning skills and work habits;
11.0 Deliver the course effectively, ensuring all course objectives are met as outlined in the course materials;
12.0 Report equipment deficiencies and/or inventory shortages to the Program Coordinator of the Paramedic Program as required;
13.0 Establish, in the classroom, an appropriate atmosphere which isconducive to learning;
14.0 Maintain fair, firm and consistent discipline with the students;
15.0 Regularly monitor student progress and adjust lesson plans accordingly, while still meeting all objectives as outlined in the lesson plans;
16.0 Maintain accurate academic records and provide to the Program Coordinator for final mark allocation
17.0 Identify academic weaknesses in students early in the program
18.0 Ensure action plans are implemented to correct study activities or clarify topics.
19.0 Refer continuing academic issues to the Program Coordinator on a timely basis to ensure the student receives all necessary support for success
20.0 Inform students, beforehand, of the basis upon which their performance will be evaluated by providing students with the Student Handout at the beginning of each course;
21.0 Base the evaluation of students on the guidelines established CTS Canadian Career College Inc.;
22.0 Ensure that the evaluation of students is appropriate;
23.0 Regularly check the completeness and quality of the students’ work;
24.0 Keep accurate and complete records of student performance;
25.0 Implement practice scenarios in accordance with guidelines established in the lesson plans ensuring that course objectives are appropriately covered. Submit test scenarios and final scenarios to Program Coordinator for approval prior to use.
26.0 Forward all documentation to the Program Coordinator for allocation of marks
27.0 Communicate on an appropriate basis with students, co‑workers, the Director of Paramedicine,, the President of CTS Canadian Career College Inc. or designate, and community members;
28.0 Communicate clearly and precisely;
29.0 Report student progress to the Campus Director, Paramedic Program Coordinator, and/or Director of Paramedicine, in an effective and acceptable manner;
30.0 Respond promptly to inquiries from the Campus Director, Program Coordinator, Director of Paramedicine;
31.0 Communicate with the students Campus Director, Paramedic Program Coordinator, co‑workers, and Director of Paramedicine, in a professional, constructive and accurate manner;
32.0 Use discretion and consideration in speaking of the campus, CTS Canadian Career College Inc., co‑workers, and the students, both on campus and off;
33.0 Use appropriate channels in problem solving;
34.0 Ensure that students, through their studies, are prepared for the placement and will, therefore have a meaningful experience;
35.0 In the classroom, draw upon student placement experiences to reinforce instruction and help to develop students’ coping strategies
36.0 Participate in student graduations and functions
37.0 Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
Successful candidate must have graduated from a Primary Care Paramedic diploma program and currently hold a valid Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (A-EMCA) certificate.
Experience
Successful candidate must have a minimum of two years experience working as a Primary Care Paramedic and has maintained the paramedic skill set. Candidates with greater experience in the field are preferred.
For clinical instruction, a recent CPIC with VSC will be required.

Compensation
The successful candidate can expect a starting range of $30 to $32/hour.
