Location: Lethbridge, AB
Position: Small Business Advisor, Full-Time
Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Small Business Advisor builds and manages relationships with small business members by providing trusted financial advice, tailored banking solutions, and support throughout the business lifecycle. Acting as a primary point of contact, the Advisor works to understand members’ goals and challenges while aligning solutions with the Credit Union’s cooperative values and risk appetite.
What You’ll Do:
Member Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with small business members.
- Serve as a trusted advisor by understanding members’ business models, cash flow, growth plans, and financial needs.
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance members’ financial well-being through relevant products and services.
Business Development & Portfolio Growth
- Grow and manage a portfolio of small business members through referrals, networking, and community engagement.
- Generate new business opportunities while deepening existing member relationships.
- Collaborate with internal partners to deliver holistic financial solutions.
Lending & Credit Analysis
- Assess credit applications for operating lines, term loans, and commercial mortgages.
- Analyse financial statements, cash flow projections, and business plans.
- Prepare credit recommendations in compliance with credit union policies and risk guidelines.
Advisory & Financial Solutions
- Recommend appropriate deposit, cash management, and borrowing solutions.
- Support members with digital banking tools and treasury services.
- Provide guidance on business growth, succession, and transition planning.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and credit union policies.
- Maintain accurate documentation and member records.
- Participate in ongoing portfolio and credit reviews.
Who You Are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
- Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in small business banking or financial services.
- Strong understanding of small business financial statements and credit adjudication.
- Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
- Experience working in a credit union or cooperative financial institution.
- Small business or commercial lending certification.
