Qualifications:
· A bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Labour Studies, Political Science or History (or related field); and two years’ experience working in communications in social justice movements, ethnocultural associations, Indigenous organizations, or within the broader labour movement; or a sufficient combination of education and experience to complete the duties of the position in an exemplary manner
· Experience building, maintaining and upkeeping data systems that include member lists, facility maps and documents related to organizing campaigns
· Experience running a social media page using platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook for an organization, club, etc.
· Experience using organizing digital tools such as ActionBuilder, ActionNetwork, CallHub, NationBuilder, etc.
· Experience working with design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly Adobe Express) and Cap Cut
· Experience in the labour movement and demonstrated commitment to social justice are assets
· Demonstrated familiarity with labour union politics and history; knowledge of provincial labour legislation is an asset
· Capacity to work as part of a team under pressure with other department staff on organizing campaigns
· Demonstrated capacity as a leader
· Must possess a valid driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle
· Eligibility to hold a valid passport and travel internationally
Skills:
● Build online social movements and move people from online to offline engagement
● Conduct digital, telephone, text-based, and door-knocking campaigns for the membership
● Involve, cross-train, and motivate members, Internal Organizers and staff
● Work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
● Maintain working relationships with, and provide support to, members, Internal Organizers and other staff
● Work with and educate member leaders in identifying workplace issues with a problem-solving focus
● Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
● Work with union organizing databases/programs like ActionBuilder, ActionNetwork, CallHub, NationBuilder, etc.
● Strong personal planning and time-management skills
● Punctual and reliable
● Willing to work long, irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
● Occasional travel throughout SEIU-West’s geographical jurisdiction based on campaign needs
● Motivated self-starter able to work effectively with a minimum of supervision and as part of a team, as required
● Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement
● Ability to multitask and organize time efficiently
● Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, composure and dignity
● Deep understanding of how to build online social movements
● Willing to engage in training, including from the International Union in the United States, on a regular basis
Pay: $80,835.40-$93,415.49 per year
