The Surf Lodge located on beautiful Gabriola Island is seeking a skilled and reliable Line Cook to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Line Cook will be responsible for preparing ingredients, executing menu items according to recipes and standards, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workstation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to restaurant recipes and quality standards
- Ensure all food is prepared in a timely manner and meets presentation guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the station and kitchen area
- Follow food safety and sanitation procedures in compliance with health regulations
- Assist in prep work, receiving deliveries, and stocking supplies as needed
- Communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service
- Follow the direction of the Head Chef and assist with special tasks or menu changes
- Monitor portion control and minimize waste
- Adhere to all restaurant policies and procedures
- Support a positive and professional kitchen culture
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a line cook or prep cook preferred
- Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain one)
- Flexible schedule — ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods
- Lift up to 50 lbs as needed
- Tolerate heat and humidity in the kitchen environment
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay: starting from $21.00/hour
- Free daily staff meal
