Arbour Restaurant & Lounge is hiring a Summer Student Cook to join our kitchen team for our busy summer season.
This position is offered as part of the Government of Canada Summer Student Grant Program and is open to students who are entering or returning to post-secondary education in September 2026. We are ideally looking for a student pursuing culinary arts, hospitality, food service, or a related field who is eager to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a professional restaurant kitchen.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated student to build practical culinary skills, work alongside experienced kitchen professionals, and gain valuable experience in food preparation, service, leadership, organization, and kitchen operations.
Position Details
Position: Summer Student Cook
Location: Arbour Restaurant & Lounge, Bay Bulls, NL
Hours: 30–35 hours per week
Duration: 12-week funded summer position
Wage: $22.50 per hour for the 12-week grant period
Additional Hours: $17.00 per hour for any hours worked outside the 12-week funded period
Start Date: To be discussed with the successful applicant
About the Role
The Summer Student Cook will support the preparation and execution of Arbour’s summer menu during our busiest season. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about food, interested in the culinary industry, and eager to learn in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
The successful applicant will be involved in daily food preparation, cooking during service, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, supporting food safety standards, and assisting with kitchen operations as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with the preparation and execution of Arbour’s summer menu
- Preparing ingredients, sauces, sides, proteins, garnishes, and other menu components
- Cooking and plating menu items during service
- Supporting catering, events, and high-volume service when required
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workstation
- Following proper food handling, sanitation, and food safety procedures
- Assisting with inventory, prep lists, storage, labeling, and rotation
- Helping maintain consistent food quality, portioning, and presentation standards
- Supporting team members during busy service periods
- Assisting with staff direction, task delegation, and kitchen organization when needed
- Cleaning kitchen equipment, work areas, storage areas, and prep spaces
- Contributing to a respectful, professional, and team-focused workplace culture

- Able to follow instructions and take initiative
- Organized, clean, and detail-oriented
- A strong team player with a positive attitude

- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Interested in growing their culinary, leadership, and hospitality skills
Previous kitchen experience is considered an asset, but we are also open to training the right student who has a strong work ethic, a genuine interest in the culinary field, and a willingness to learn.

Pay: $22.50 per hour
Work Location: In person
