Title: Transfer Station Operator
Department: Public Works
Status: Regular Full Time (35 hours per week, Wednesday - Sunday)
Pay Grid: Salary Range 1 ($41,600.00 to $54,600.00 per year)
Reporting to: Transfer Station Supervisor
Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Transfer Station Supervisor, this role is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the Lil'wat Nation Transfer Stations.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
- Oversee the entire operation of the transfer station including but not limited to:
- Secure food waste and garbage management.
- Management of all bins and the proper separation of recycling and garbage.
- Proper management of hazardous items.
- Assist in setting standards for customer service and responding to customer concerns and complaints.
- Provide clear instructions and education for users. Will assist customers with sorting materials.
- Scheduling and recording of shipping/collection and disposal of recyclables, garbage and hazardous materials.
- Operating of the compactor bins, food waste transfer bins, carboard bailers, and manual forklift.
- Traffic and vehicle flow management and cleanliness (free of debris or clutter) or roadways.
- Cleaning of bins and daily site clean-up. Maintains a clean and tidy facility.
- Data management and required record-keeping of recycling, garbage and other waste.
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure safety is a key priority.
- Performs ongoing site maintenance and general duties.

Experience and Attributes:

First Aid Certificate.
- Training in solid waste management.
- Previous experience with operating small equipment (i.e. manual forklift, compactor etc.) and light hand tools.
- Previous experience and/or understanding of hazardous material management.
- Strong communication skills - able to understand direction, able to clearly communicate tasks, able to educate and share knowledge with staff and customers.
- Physically fit and mobile. Able to lift up to 50 lbs and be on feet all day. Able to conduct manual labor. Can work outside in variable weather conditions.
- Proven ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment and manage stress effectively.
- Able to prioritize daily tasks and can manage multiple priorities at a time.
- Strong attention to safety and following all safety protocols.
- Team player - willing to help all team members. Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, a clean Driver’s Abstract, and a reliable vehicle as asset.
- Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector.
