Licensed Practical Nurse - Psychiatry
Location: Hillsborough Hospital, Charlottetown (Acute Care Psychiatry Unit & Safe and Secure, Mental Health & Addictions Campus)

The incumbent will assist and provide, under supervision, basic nursing care for patients on Acute Care Psychiatry & Safe and Secure. The incumbent is required to work independently under the direction of Unit Supervisor.
Duties will include:
- Meeting the physical, psychological, spiritual, emotional and sociological needs of patients;
- preparing, administering and recording use of oral medication;
- transcribing physician's orders as required;
- providing effective communication thorough charting as well as written and verbal reports;
- implementing programs of daily living;
- implementing behavioural management techniques;
- capable of performing sterile and non-sterile techniques;
- providing guidance to non-professional staff;
- other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have successful completion of a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
- Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Prince Edward Island.
- Demonstrates application of knowledge of clients’ physical, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual needs, which includes clients with chronic illnesses.
- Demonstrates an alignment with Health PEI’s mission, vision, and values, including honesty, integrity in personal and professional behaviour
- Successful completion of the pharmacology training, health assessment, and administration course is required.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, family, and staff.
- Must be capable of sustained physical activity.
- Must have a good previous work and attendance record.
- Current CPR/BCLS, TLR, WHIMIS, All Hazards Codes, and annual re-certifications.
- Demonstrate a professional presence and model professional behavior
- Knowledge of chronic illnesses
- Must be able to work well independently and under supervision
- Ability to work as a member of the clients care team (interdisciplinary team), requesting and accepting direction as required
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills
- Able to provide physical, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual care to the client being cared for
- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check and vulnerable sector check prior to beginning employment.
Other Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a psychiatric setting would be an asset.
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
- Advanced Code White training will be considered and asset.

Salary Range: $32.42 - $38.67 per hour
Bi-Weekly Hours: 45-75 Hours Bi-Weekly/12 Hour Rotating Shifts; Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays
