Fabric + Flow is a modern fabric and sewing brand focused on creating premium materials and thoughtfully designed kits for makers who want more than just fabric—they want results.
We’re looking for a Pattern Design Coordinator to bridge the gap between concept and execution—someone who can take an idea and help bring it to life through structured collaboration, hands-on sampling, and sharp attention to detail.
This is a part-time hybrid role combining in-studio work (sampling + testing) with remote coordination (proofing, communication, and research).
What You’ll Do
1. Pattern Development Coordination
- Act as the primary liaison between Fabric + Flow and our pattern designer
- Translate creative direction into clear, actionable briefs
- Review drafts, provide structured feedback, and ensure timelines are met
- Manage version control and iteration cycles
2. Sampling + Fit Testing (In-Studio)
- Cut and assemble sample garments from patterns
- Identify fit issues, construction challenges, and usability gaps
- Recommend and implement adjustments for improved fit and finish
- Ensure patterns align with Fabric + Flow’s standard of polished, wearable garments
3. Instruction Proofing + Refinement
- Review and edit pattern instructions for clarity, flow, and accuracy
- Ensure instructions are beginner-friendly but still elevated and efficient
- Collaborate with designer to refine technical language and sequencing
4. Trend + Product Research
- Research emerging trends in sewing patterns, silhouettes, and categories
- Identify gaps and opportunities for new pattern releases (especially swim + lifestyle apparel)
- Bring forward ideas that align with the Fabric + Flow aesthetic and customer
5. Product Alignment
- Ensure patterns work seamlessly with Fabric + Flow kits and fabric offerings
- Collaborate on pattern + kit pairings to improve customer experience and conversion
Who You Are
- Strong sewing and garment construction skills (formal fashion design training an asset however not required)
- Deep understanding of fit, especially for stretch fabrics (swim/athletic is a major asset)
- Highly detail-oriented—you notice what others miss
- Organized and proactive—you don’t wait to be told what’s broken
- Clear communicator—you can give structured, actionable feedback
- Able to move between creative thinking and technical execution
- Comfortable working independently and managing timelines
Bonus (Not Required, But Valuable)
- Experience working with sewing patterns (indie or commercial)
- Pattern drafting or modification experience
- Experience working with freelancers or overseas teams
- Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or pattern software
- Understanding of the home sewing market/customer mindset
Role Structure
- Part-time (5-10 hours/week to start)
- Hybrid:
- In-store (Edmonton): sampling, cutting, testing
- Remote: coordination, proofing, research
- Flexible hours with clear deliverables and timelines
Why This Role Matters
This role directly impacts the quality of our patterns—how they fit, how they’re experienced, and whether customers come back for more.
You’re not just supporting production—you’re helping shape the product line.
