Reporting to the Supervisor, Services, the Resource Worker is responsible for carrying out a variety of activities to ensure the adequacy and quality of placement resources for children/youth in care. These duties include the recruitment, screening, assessment, training, support and supervision of foster and kin in care families and the assessment of legal custody and customary care families.
The Resource Worker collaborates with other team members to plan and secure placements for children/youth in care including placements within Outside Paid Resources (OPR). The Resource Worker acts as a liaison between the Society and OPR operators.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Social Work degree, however consideration may be given to applicants who possess a Bachelor degree in a related field with 2 years’ experience in a Human Services field direct service role. Masters of Social Work degree would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and Ministry of Children and Youth Services, as well as clinical knowledge of social work theories, principles and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and assess risk to children and families.
- Effective interviewing and counselling skills, specifically with children/youth and families.
- Demonstrated ability to complete family assessments, develop and facilitate training.
- Proficient interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with children, youth, families and staff, foster, adoptive and kin families, and community collaterals.
- Demonstrated written communication skills to meet Society recording responsibilities and other administrative requirements; excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
- Proven organizational skills to set and meet priorities and established Ministry and Society requirements and to manage an assigned caseload.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, with the ability to function as part of a team within the Society’s structure with resource families and other staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work from a solutions-focused, strengths-based perspective.
- Demonstrated understanding of child development, family systems, the effects of trauma on the child and a systems approach to working with families and professionals working with the families would be an asset.
- Proof of valid G-class driver’s license and $1,000,000 automobile liability insurance.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
