The Main is a farm-to-table café committed to serving R.E.A.L. food - Regenerative, Ethical, Authentic, and Local. We're part of a broader project to bring regenerative agriculture and meaningful food experiences to the Port Hope region. Our front-of-house team plays a key role in delivering this mission to our guests.
Position Overview: We’re looking for friendly, reliable, and food-loving individuals to join our front-of-house team. This role includes making and serving espresso drinks and other beverages, preparing and serving food items, and creating a warm, welcoming environment for every customer. While you won’t be required to cook from scratch, you may assist with light food assembly and plating dishes with care. As we cater events regularly, occasional shifts will take place in the evenings to assist with event food service, set up, and clean up.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service & Beverage Prep
- Prepare and serve coffee and espresso drinks, teas, and other beverages to café standards
- Welcome and engage customers, take orders, and answer questions about our R.E.A.L. menu and sourcing practices
- Maintain a clean, well-organized counter and café space
- Process payments accurately using the POS system
Food Service & Light Prep
- Assemble and serve dishes and baked goods according to provided guidelines
- Heat or plate menu items (e.g., soups, sandwiches, or salads) as needed
- Restock food, drink, and retail items during shift
- Maintain high standards of food handling, cleanliness, and hygiene
- Learn about our ingredients and be confident in speaking to their origin, quality, and preparation
Team Support
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and fellow front-of-house team members
- Assist with basic opening/closing duties and restocking
- Participate in a collaborative, respectful, and fast-paced team environment
Qualifications:
- Experience working in a café, coffee shop, bakery, or restaurant front-of-house
- Barista experience is a strong asset, but training can be provided
- Friendly, team-oriented, and customer-focused attitude
- Interest in local, seasonal, and sustainable food is a bonus
- Smart Serve (preferred)
- Valid Ontario Food Handler Certification (required)

Salary
This position starts at $18.00/hour, but can increase regularly based on performance. All non-salaried employees receive tips.
