Position Overview
Directly accountable to the Life Enrichment Director, the Recreation Facilitator provides resident centered opportunities for participation in recreation and leisure activities, to meet the residents’ physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs. The Recreation Facilitator in conjunction with the resident and family sets individualized goals for the resident, helping them find meaning through leisure and recreation activities by promoting optimism, health and personal growth, and independence in leisure, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
The recreation facilitator conducts initial and ongoing assessments, develops intervention plans, documents change in clients’ progress and evaluates results to determine if the clients’ goals and objectives were achieved. The recreation facilitator uses their knowledge of current trends, research, and practices in recreation and leisure services to develop appropriate and meaningful programs for residents with diverse needs and abilities. Performs all duties in accordance with established Health and Safety regulations/guidelines, and policies and procedures.
Experience
· Two years’ recent experience working with residents in both small and large groups in a geriatric or related health care setting.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
· Grade 12 or equivalent.
· Graduate of Recreation Facilitator Course for Older Adults or equivalent.
Qualifications and Skills
Completed the certificate program in Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults or have equivalent education in Activity/Recreation Therapy.
· Excellent communication skills
· Team Player
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Accepts supervision & direction well
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· 2 years’ experience in long term care an asset -Ability to lead groups
Musical ability – preference will be given to applicants who have the ability to play a musical instrument (piano) and sing
· Ability to lead groups
· Must be computer literate
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
