At Phoenix Industrial we are currently looking for a talented individual to join our team and accepting applications for the following position:
This role is centered on building complete, execution-ready estimates from the ground up, not just pricing drawings.
You will be responsible for developing project costs using a combination of established productivity benchmarks and first-principles estimating, often with limited or incomplete client information, building scope understanding, execution strategies, and pricing structures that reflect how the work will actually be performed.
Responsibilities:
- Develop full project estimates across lump sum, unit rate, and T&M contracts
- Build execution plans, schedules, manpower loading, and crew mixes, including indirect staffing
- Perform complete quantity take-offs for materials, labour, and equipment
- Identify and price execution and commercial risks, including gaps, overlaps, and scope ambiguities
- Develop, solicit, and evaluate subcontractor scopes and pricing across multiple disciplines (civil, concrete, electrical, insulation, refractory, cranes, etc.)
- Develop equipment requirements and charge-out rates, including scaffolding and construction equipment
- Interpret specifications, line lists, and drawings to determine technical requirements such as NDE and PWHT
- Contribute to proposal documentation, including execution plans, schedules, and technical narratives
- Participate in bid reviews, clarifications, and post-tender discussions with clients
- Support project teams post-award as a technical resource when required
Requirements:
- Demonstrated field, fabrication, and construction execution experience
- Trades background or technical background with hands-on project execution responsibility
- Ability to build estimates from first principles using practical, real-world execution knowledge
- Experience developing execution plans, schedules, and manpower loading
- Strong understanding of:
- Pipe fabrication and installation
- Structural fabrication and installation
- Industrial equipment installation (tanks, furnaces, boilers, OTSGs, coolers, etc.)
- Maintenance and shutdown work
- Experience working in a General Contractor environment
- Ability to interpret specifications and integrate multiple disciplines into a cohesive estimate
- Understanding of productivity factors and construction methods in both field and module yard environments
- Experience with subcontractor scope development and bid evaluation
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Additional assets:
- Experience with commercial structures involving union, non-union, and Indigenous participation frameworks
- Familiarity with equipment costing and rate development
- Technical diploma or related education
