Who We Are
KAYU Education (啟源教育) is an innovative online learning platform based in Edmonton, Alberta. We connect passionate university students across Canada with eager learners in Hong Kong (ages 6-16). We don’t do "textbook" English—we focus on real-world communication, confidence building, and cultural exchange.
Why Mentors Love Us
We understand that as a university student, you want a job that is rewarding but doesn't add extra stress to your life.
- Zero Parent Management: Our dedicated Consultant team handles all communication, expectations, and feedback with parents. You never have to deal with difficult emails or administrative headaches.
- Creative Autonomy: You have the freedom to design your own session flow! Whether you want to talk about Canadian pop culture, university life, or your favorite hobbies, we trust your creativity.
- Dedicated Support: While you lead the way, we’ve got your back. We provide student profiles and suggested directions to help you feel prepared and confident.
- You Set the Schedule: There are no fixed shifts. Whether you want to tutor at 2:00 AM, 7:00 AM, or 10:00 PM, the choice is yours! As long as your availability matches the student's preference, you are good to go.
- The "Round-the-Clock" Advantage: Early Birds: Perfect for sessions before your morning classes. Night Owls: Great for late-night sessions when the house is quiet. Anytime: With the 12-15 hour time difference (depending on your location in Canada), there is almost always a student ready to chat when you are!
- Location Independent: Whether you are in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, or Halifax, you can make the time difference work for your lifestyle.
Key Responsibilities
- Host 1-on-1 Sessions: Lead engaging 30 or 60 minute conversational sessions via Google Meet.
- Bridge the Gap: Help students master "Real-Life English" (slang, idioms, and natural flow).
- Provide Encouragement: Share brief feedback during or after the session to highlight student growth.
- Quality Assurance: To support mentor growth, maintain teaching quality, and ensure a safe and fair learning environment for both students and mentors, sessions are internally recorded for quality assurance and dispute prevention purposes.
What We’re Looking For
- Current University Student: Open to ALL faculties and majors (Arts, Science, Business, etc.). Your personality is what matters most!
- Native-Level English: Clear communication skills and an engaging speaking style.
- Tech Ready: You have a reliable computer with a webcam and high-speed internet.
- Energetic & Reliable: You love chatting and have a knack for keeping younglearners engaged.
- Bonus Points: Previous experience in ESL (English as a Second Language) tutoring, linguistics, or education-related fields is highly preferred, though not strictly required if you are a natural conversationalist!
Compensation
- Rate: $22.00 – $25.00 CAD per hour (Independent Contractor basis).
- Agreement Type: This is an independent contractor (freelance) position. You will be compensated on a per-session basis. Please note that as an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own tax obligations; we do not deduct taxes from your pay.
Application:
1. The "Mentor Spotlight" Video
Since our platform allows parents and students to personally select their preferred mentor, your introduction video is the most important part of your application. Think of this as your "digital storefront"—the more engaging and charismatic you are, the more likely you are to be chosen by families!
Video Requirements:
● ● ●
Duration: 1 to 1.5 minutes.
Format: High energy, clear audio, and a friendly, professional appearance.
What to share: Be yourself! We’d love to see your "vibe"—your personality, your unique way of making learning fun, and why a student should choose you.
Visibility & Consent
By joining us, your profile and video will be featured on our website and Instagram to help families find their perfect mentor. By submitting your video, you’re consenting to its use on our public-facing platforms as part of your mentor portfolio.
2. Written Profile (Your Professional "About Me") Please provide a short introduction (approx. 100–150 words) covering:
- About Me: Your background, current studies, and why you are passionate about mentorship.
