About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 96-year-old woman living independently in Bayside, Ontario. She is mentally sharp and manages her own medications, but experiences mobility challenges and tires easily. She uses a walker or wheelchair and requires support with balance and physical tasks throughout the day. While she's capable once settled, she cannot dress herself independently or perform tasks that require bending or standing for extended periods.
Responsibilities:
Morning visits include helping her get out of bed, assisting with dressing and personal care, preparing breakfast, ensuring her water glass is filled, and performing light housekeeping tasks such as emptying the commode, making the bed, and unloading the dishwasher. Evening visits involve preparing dinner, helping her undress, and settling her comfortably in her chair for the night. Throughout each visit, companionship and wellness checks are essential. The role focuses on personal support rather than nursing care, with an emphasis on maintaining her dignity and independence while ensuring her safety.
What We're Looking For:
We need a certified PSW who is reliable, patient, and makes the client feel comfortable. Experience with mobility assistance using walkers or wheelchairs is essential. The ideal caregiver takes initiative, communicates clearly with family members, and respects the client's independence while providing necessary support. Weekend availability is required, and we strongly prefer consistency with the same caregiver to build trust and familiarity. Flexibility to add additional shifts during times of increased need is important, as the client previously required extra support following a fall.
Schedule:
This is a part-time position requiring five visits per week. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM (2 hours each). Care will begin August 1st with an initial orientation where family will be present to introduce the caregiver and demonstrate routines.
