Stk’emlúpsemc te Secwépemc Nation (SSN), comprised of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) and
Skeetchestn Indian Band (SIB), is a historical and traditional Caretaker Unit of the Secwépemc Nation. The
SSN is the governing organization responsible for safeguarding and upholding its collectively held
Aboriginal rights and title interests within SSN Ancestral Lands.
The Environmental Monitor is responsible for monitoring project-specific environmental compliance at an
intermediate block-cave gold mine operating within SSN Ancestral Lands. The Environmental Monitor
will be part of the Major Projects Team within SSN and will act as a direct source of liaison between the
mine site and SSN. This role is primarily mobilized through an on-site/field-based setting, as monitoring
day-to-day mine project operations through conducting site audits and inspections is crucial to effective
implementation of key responsibilities. The Environmental Monitor must be willing to work in adverse
weather conditions, within an operating mine-site, be self-motivated, and be comfortable working
independently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Works cooperatively with SSN and New Afton Mine representatives, primarily the Environment
Team, to implement key provisions of the related project agreements between Coeur Mining Inc.-
New Afton Mine and SSN by undertaking a consistent and systematic approach to an audit and
inspection regime of environmental monitoring;
- Monitors and reports matters related to various aspects of project compliance with all applicable
provincial, federal, and SSN laws, including SSN project specific conditions and other agreement
commitments;
- Completes SSN daily inspection reports and participates in New Afton internal and external audits
of Environmental Management Systems;
- Participates, through observation, in various environmental, archaeology, or cultural heritage
related field study, sampling, or monitoring activities in and around the project area;
- Maintains a database of environmental monitoring results and associated information and provides
monthly detailed reports and updates with recommendations to SSN and Coeur through agreement-
driven engagement forums;
- Demonstrates awareness of and works cooperatively with the cultural heritage and archaeological
protection activities in the New Afton Mine area;
- Reviews and becomes familiar with the portion of project agreements between SSN and Coeur
relevant to the SSN environmental monitoring regime at New Afton Mine;
- Provides regular and detailed reports on environmental monitoring and testing results and follows
