Background
The Ben Eoin Yacht Club and Marina established in 2012 as a not-for-profit community-based recreational facility.
The primary objective of the Yacht Club and Marina is to encourage community access to the venue and promote accessibility to those wishing to enjoy the Bras d’Or Lakes with boating and outdoor activities. The Marina caters to various clienteles with different levels of membership from dock/berth holder, marine and social membership, day passes and a Learn to sail program for junior sailors.
Position Profile
The Manager, Ben Eoin Yacht Club and Marina, is a seasonal position. (Approximately mid-May – Nov 1 +/-) They are responsible for all operational facets of the facility. This person is responsible for ensuring the facility is open during regular scheduled hours and special club events. As often this individual is the first point of contact for customers, visitors and service providers they must present a professional image of themselves and the property. He/she is responsible to ensure all equipment is in safe working order and compliant with all pertinent regulations.
Other key deliverables of the position include administrative functions, maintaining records on membership, accounts payable and accounts receivable and working closely with the staff accountant and treasurer on all financial matters including fuel inventory.
The manager is responsible for creating a customer service culture and efficient use of staff during peak periods, ensuring the staff are adequately trained and capable of performing all job functions. As the operation continues to evolve, it is the responsibility of the manager to recommend new policies and procedures that are required to the BOD, including those pertaining to the junior sailing program.
This operational leader is expected to create a culture with all staff members toward a continuous improvement mindset as it relates to policy development, safety and security given proximity to the water and the high volume of patrons during the summer months.
Position Requirements
Minimum of 5 years’ experience within an organization in progressively more responsible positions (preferably service–based industry).
Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with customers, suppliers, business partners, volunteers, government agencies and individual rental agreements.
Demonstrated leadership skills, knowledge of personnel policies, practices and procedures.
Ability to document, administer and retain records on sales, events and staff scheduling.
A demonstrated commitment and respect for the safety of the people, physical assets and the environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
Create and adhere to a set of standardized operating procedures for daily and weekly tasks. This includes daily dock verification or all marine berths, bathrooms, garbage, fuel and storage areas this ensuring the Yacht club facility is in excellent condition. Document and follow the operational manual and all routines as per the established safety and operational plans.
Support and implement both short and long-term business plans in accordance with the goals and objectives of the BEYC board, including maximizing berth holders, membership to maximize revenue.
Understand prior year performance and financial results, the annual budget and ensure labor plan and revenue results are meeting expectations.
Regularly (monthly during operational period) report to budget for the Board of Directors on the Marina’s status against all operational objectives, specifically events sales and membership engagement.
Ensure the Board of Directors are informed about business activities, potential threats, opportunities, and recommended actions.
Monitor all Marina performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken if necessary.
As the primary contact and Response Commander for occupational health and safety (OHS) compliance and risk evaluation, fire safety, security, asset management, insurance, dock safety, fuel procedures, water testing, and all responsibilities regarding environmental and safety regulations.
