Building & Grounds Custodian

Full-Time / Seasonal (May–October with potential extension)
Competitive Pay: $18–$24/hour (based on experience)
Overview
Sackawa is a busy, non-profit paddling club serving youth, adults, and community groups throughout the season. We are seeking a reliable, hands-on Building & Grounds Custodian to maintain our facility, waterfront, and surrounding property to a high standard. This role is critical to ensuring a safe, clean, and professional environment for members, renters, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning of clubhouse, washrooms, change rooms, and common areas
- Maintain outdoor spaces including lawn care, garbage removal, and general grounds upkeep
- Inspect and maintain docks, walkways, and waterfront areas for safety and cleanliness
- Complete minor repairs (e.g., basic carpentry, painting, fixture replacement)
- Monitor building systems and report maintenance issues promptly
- Set up and tear down spaces for events, rentals, and programs
- Manage waste, recycling, and supplies inventory
- Support seasonal opening and closing of the facility
Qualifications
- Previous custodial, maintenance, or property care experience preferred
- General knowledge of building maintenance and basic repair skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, and working outdoors in varying conditions
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining clean, safe spaces
- Reliable and punctual
Assets (Not Required)
- Experience working in recreational, sport, or waterfront environments
- WHMIS, First Aid, or similar safety certifications
- Familiarity with small equipment (lawnmowers, trimmers, etc.)
