About the Role
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Test Technician is primarily responsible for performing functional, electrical, acceptance, and environmental testing of printed circuit card assemblies (CCAs), electronic sub-assemblies, and higher-level assemblies used in space and other high-reliability applications. Working in accordance with engineering specifications, manufacturing documentation, customer requirements, and quality standards, the Test Technician ensures products consistently meet stringent performance and reliability requirements prior to shipment.
As a member of a small manufacturing team, the Test Technician also provides support for inspection, assembly, calibration activities, product qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure production schedules and quality objectives are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Product Testing
- Perform electrical, functional, acceptance, and diagnostic testing of printed circuit card assemblies (CCAs), electronic subassemblies, and higher-level assemblies.
- Execute test procedures in accordance with engineering documentation, manufacturing instructions, customer specifications, and quality requirements.
- Set up, configure, operate, and verify a wide range of electronic test equipment.
- Perform testing using equipment including, but not limited to:
- Oscilloscopes
- Digital multimeters
- Power supplies
- Signal generators
- Spectrum analyzers
- Frequency counters
- Network analyzers (where applicable)
- Automated Test Equipment (ATE)
- Data acquisition systems
- Verify product functionality and performance against specifications.
- Accurately record test results and maintain complete production documentation.
- Identify, document, and communicate product anomalies, failures, and non-conformances.
- Assist Engineering with prototype builds, product qualification, first article testing, engineering evaluations, and failure investigations.
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of electrical and functional failures.
Environmental and Qualification Testing
- Support environmental qualification testing including thermal cycling, vibration, thermal vacuum (TVAC), burn-in, and other customer-specified qualification tests, as required.
- Prepare hardware for environmental testing and verify post-test functionality.
- Assist Engineering in documenting qualification and acceptance test results.
Test Equipment and Calibration
- Maintain proficiency in the operation, care, and verification of production test equipment.
- Perform routine verification and basic preventative maintenance of test equipment.
- Support the company's calibration program by coordinating equipment calibration schedules, maintaining calibration records, and ensuring only calibrated equipment is used during production.
- Assist in developing and improving production test fixtures and test processes.
Inspection and Manufacturing Support
- Support incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities as required.
- Perform visual inspection of electronic assemblies using applicable workmanship standards.
- Assist with mechanical and electronic assembly during changing production requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), Foreign Object Debris (FOD), cleanliness, and contamination control requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of analog and digital electronic circuits.
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Proficient in the operation of standard electronic test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Assembly drawings
- Bills of Materials
- Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Test procedures and specifications
- Familiarity with automated test systems and test software is considered an asset.
Knowledge of calibration practices and equipment management is preferred.
Required Qualifications
· Experience testing electronic products within a manufacturing environment.
· Experience testing printed circuit card assemblies (CCAs) and higher-level electronic assemblies.
· Experience working in the aerospace, space, defence, military, medical device, or other high-reliability electronics manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
· Experience supporting product qualification and engineering test activities is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and AS9100.
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards.
- Experience supporting calibration programs and equipment management.
- Experience performing inspection and electronic/mechanical assembly.
- Ability to successfully obtain and retain registration and approval under the Controlled Goods Program in accordance with the Defence Production Act and Controlled Goods Regulations.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain government security clearance, where required.
Education
- Diploma or Certificate in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technician, or a related technical discipline.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
