We're looking for a dedicated Project Accountant who enjoys working in a dynamic construction environment and takes pride in delivering accurate financial information that helps projects succeed. You'll partner with Project Managers and operational teams to manage project finances, monitor costs, prepare billings, and support projects throughout their entire lifecycle. Functions of the Job:
Project Financial Administration
- Set up new projects within the accounting system, ensuring all project information is complete and accurate.
- Maintain project financial records throughout the life of each project.
- Monitor project costs and identify discrepancies or unusual variances.
- Participate in project closeout activities, ensuring all financial obligations have been completed.
Cost Management & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain Cost-to-Complete (CTC) reports.
- Assist Project Managers with monthly financial reviews and forecasting.
- Monitor labour, equipment, subcontractors, and material costs.
- Analyze project cost variances and investigate discrepancies.
- Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and revenue recognition.
Change Order Administration
- Prepare, track, and monitor project change orders.
- Ensure approved change orders are properly documented and billed.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure pending change orders are followed up in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate change order logs.
Billing & Accounts Receivable
- Prepare customer invoices in accordance with contract requirements.
- Generate progress billings and milestone invoices.
- Track outstanding receivables and assist with collections.
- Reconcile customer billing questions and resolve discrepancies.
- Support holdback and lien release processes where applicable.
Accounts Payable Support
- Review and process project-related supplier and subcontractor invoices.
- Verify invoices against purchase orders, contracts, and project approvals.
- Assist with subcontract payment applications.
- Ensure project costs are coded accurately.
Project Controls
- Maintain accurate project documentation.
- Assist with contract administration and financial record keeping.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and contractual requirements.
Who is the Ideal Candidate?:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- 3-4 years of experience in a similar role
- CPA designation or progress towards CPA is considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience with accounting software (Jonas) is considered an asset
- Experience with project accounting and job costing

Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
