LIVE IN SUPPORTIVE ROOMMATE
Optional Rehabilitation Services Inc. (OPTIONS) is a not-for profit agency approved to support adults and seniors who have a wide range of disabilities. For 40 years and in a partnership of support, OPTIONS, individuals and their families work together to create individualized support models that enhance and fulfill hopes and dreams.
OPTIONS is looking for a Supportive Roommate for a LIVE IN situation in Calgary to support one of our clients. This requires the successful applicant to move into the individual’s home and offer support there. Rent and utilities is included, however the successful applicant will be responsible for purchasing and providing food for both themselves and the individual they support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Supportive Roommate will be responsible for the following:
· Ability to provide supportive and positive companionship to an adult with mental health and development disabilities.
· Support our client with daily medications and treatment plan.
· Support our client with household duties such as laundry, meal preparation and cleaning.
· Active participation in the individual’s care plan and support team.
· Excellent communication skills
· Complete Supportive Roommate documentation as provided and required by OPTIONS.
· Must have a vehicle and able to drive client to and from day program two to three times per week.
SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with an adult with mental health and developmental disabilities.
· Post-secondary education in disability services, mental health, addictions or relevant field such as Social Work, Nursing, etc. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
· Excellent written and oral English communication skills for clear understanding of instructions and daily care needs.
· Must be able to develop rapport and build a trusting relationship for long term support.
· Must be patient, reliable and able to create a comfortable and respectful environment.
REQUIREMENTS
- On-going mandatory training (Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Positive Behavioral Supports, Emergency First Aid, etc.).
- Current Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Minimum Class 5 License with $2M Liability Vehicle Insurance
