Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team at the Virden Landfill. This is a full time, year round position offering 40+ hours per week, with hours varying seasonally based on operational requirements. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery, including excavator, dozer, and rock truck, to support waste management operations. This role requires a focus on safety, sanitation, and equipment maintenance to ensure smooth landfill operations and environmental compliance. Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers and rock trucks to move, load, and unload materials within the landfill site.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
- Assist with site cleanup and sanitation tasks to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Operate water pumps as needed for dewatering.
- Conduct heavy lifting tasks as required for material handling and site organization.
- Support waste compaction processes by operating compaction equipment as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Assist with site inspections and report any operational issues or hazards promptly.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize workflow and maintain high standards of sanitation.
Skills
- Proven experience in heavy equipment operation, including excavators, dozers, and rock trucks.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing or waste management processes is a plus.
- Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation procedures relevant to landfill operations.
- Excellent safety awareness with the ability to recognize potential hazards around heavy machinery.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.
- Physical stamina for long periods of operation in outdoor conditions, including heavy lifting and standing for extended durations.

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
