Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Enterprise Data & Analytics Lead, the Senior Data Developer plays a pivotal role in building and
operationalizing the data ecosystem necessary for enterprise data and analytics use cases, following industry and Manitoba Hydro's
(MH) best practices, and leveraging MH's Enterprise Data & Analytics System (DAS).
This role is accountable for ensuring data used for analytics is fit for purpose today and for the future, and responsible for the design,
creation, and maintenance of enterprise data architecture for analytics. This role builds, manages, and optimizes data pipelines and
moves these into production to provide timely access to trustworthy data to a wide variety of data consumers at Manitoba Hydro.
Collaborating with Digital & Technology and the wider business, the position requires the ability to creatively solve business data
problems. This role advocates for appropriate and effective data management practices and for promoting better understanding of
data and analytics. This is the senior working level for data development and architecture assignments and the working level for
project leader assignments and will direct and coordinate the work assignments of other Data Developers as well. You must be
technically knowledgeable, highly skilled, and able to work independently in all aspects of data architecture development and
maintenance. Success involves advocating for effective data management practices and enabling the generation of business value
of Manitoba Hydro's data.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a project lead and provide technical leadership for projects in the Enterprise Data & Analytics Section purview.
- Ensure optimum data platform operation that meets privacy and compliance requirements, change control, testing, quality
control, and migration planning.
- Design and implement enterprise data architecture, utilizing knowledge of defined reference architectures, technology trends,
and implementation experience and ensuring alignment with data security policy, reporting capability, data governance and
quality, cost, and performance requirements.
- Lead the architecture, creation, and maintenance of data pipelines from data sources to integration and on to consumption,
leveraging Change Data Capture (CDC) as applicable.
- Mentor Data Developers, including developing guidelines and standards, ensuring process alignment, sharing technical
expertise, providing training, performing code reviews, directing the execution of their tasks, and providing feedback on their
technical performance.
- Solicit and analyze business requirements to provide appropriate quality data solutions (source to target data mapping, data
lineage, data validation, data quality, and transformation rules).
- Work with Data Governance Data Stewards and the Enterprise Data Governance team to ensure alignment with data
governance.
- Assess and anticipate longer term needs of the business, provide consultative advice and expertise, and deliver presentations
to internal customers.
- Drive the adoption of reporting at Manitoba Hydro by mentoring business stakeholders on how to unlock the value of their data
through efficient report development and promotion of reporting capabilities.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders.
