We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Cleaner to lead our housekeeping team and help maintain the highest standards of cleanliness throughout our property.
Position Summary
The Lead Cleaner is responsible for ensuring guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces are maintained to the highest hospitality standards. This role combines hands-on cleaning with team leadership, daily work allocation, quality inspections, inventory management, and staff coaching. The successful candidate leads by example and fosters a culture of professionalism, efficiency, and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Supervision
Lead, coach, and support the housekeeping team during each shift.
Assign daily room and cleaning schedules based on occupancy levels.
Train new housekeeping staff on hotel standards, safety procedures, and cleaning techniques.
Conduct regular quality inspections and provide constructive feedback.
Assist with scheduling and coordinate staff breaks and shift coverage.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive workplace culture.
Housekeeping Operations
Clean guest rooms, suites, washrooms, hallways and public areas to hotel standards.
Inspect completed rooms prior to guest check-in.
Ensure all rooms are properly stocked with linens, toiletries, and guest amenities.
Respond promptly to guest requests and special housekeeping requirements.
Report maintenance issues and safety hazards immediately.
Support deep cleaning projects and seasonal maintenance programs.
Inventory & Compliance
Monitor housekeeping inventory and communicate supply requirements.
Ensure proper storage and handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Maintain compliance with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) requirements.
Follow all occupational health and safety policies and infection prevention procedures.
Maintain confidentiality and respect guest privacy at all times.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of hotel housekeeping experience.
Minimum 1 year in a supervisory or team lead role preferred.
Strong knowledge of hotel housekeeping standards and best practices.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to motivate and mentor team members.
WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain).
Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
Comfortable performing repetitive cleaning tasks.
Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $25.00–$30.00 per hour , based on experience and qualifications (competitive with the Greater Toronto Area hotel industry).
