No experience required. We're hiring a first-period apprentice; someone we can train up properly, from day one.
You start at $25–$30 an hour depending on what you bring, among the strongest apprentice rates advertised in Grande Prairie. You work out of our shop, in town; no camp, no rotation. We register you with Skilled Trades Alberta, sponsor your apprenticeship, cover your technical training (completed within Alberta), and put you under Red Seal journeypersons until you're one yourself. Certified Truck & Transport Mechanics are among the best-paid tradespeople in the Peace Region, and this is the job that gets you there.

Fire Ridge Transport Ltd. is an oilfield transport and services company based in Grande Prairie. We move equipment and materials across Western Canada, and our fleet only earns when it's rolling, so the shop that keeps it rolling matters as much as the trucks themselves. Why this beats camp work
Plenty of jobs in the Peace Region pay a young tradesperson well and cost them their life outside work to do it. This one doesn't. It's shop-based work in Grande Prairie: no camp, no rotation. When a truck breaks down on site you may head out on a local field call, because that's the trade; but you're building your career in town, not living it away from home.
What the apprenticeship actually looks like
Truck & Transport Mechanic is a four-period Red Seal trade under Alberta's apprenticeship system: roughly four years of paid, on-the-job hours with blocks of technical training at an approved Alberta institution. Here's our end of it:
- We register you as our apprentice and sponsor you through all four periods
- Your wage rises at every period as you bank hours and pass your training
- We reimburse your tuition and technical training costs
- You get an annual tool and boot allowance, so the kit doesn't come out of your first paycheques
- You work under Red Seal journeypersons the whole way: real mentorship, not sink-or-swim
And at the end of it: journeyperson certification with Red Seal endorsement, a ticket recognised across Canada, journeyperson pay to match, and a shop that already knows your work.
What you'll be doing
Real work from week one, under supervision:
- Preventive maintenance inspections across the fleet
- Brake and air system work
- Supporting CVIP inspection prep alongside a licensed technician
- Tire and wheel service
- Lubrication and fluid services
- Assisting with diagnostics and basic electrical work
- Occasional local field service support when a unit is down on site
- Keeping the shop clean, safe, and organised
- Logging your apprenticeship hours accurately; they're your ticket, treat them that way
What we need from you
- A valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
- Willingness to register as an apprentice with Skilled Trades Alberta
- Mechanical curiosity and the work ethic to match
Assets, worth telling us about:
- A farming or agricultural background: fixing your own equipment builds exactly the hands-on instinct and work ethic this shop runs on
- Safety tickets (H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, etc.); please list any you hold in your resume
- A Class 1 or 3 licence
- Any prior shop or trades experience
None of the assets are required. We're set up to train from zero; attitude and reliability are what we can't teach.
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
