The Mental Health Adult Inpatient Program at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury provides care and treatment for those individuals experiencing a severe and persistent mental illness to support recovery. Reporting to a Unit Manager, the Recreation Therapist I will be working within a client centered treatment approach and will be responsible for facilitating psycho educational workshops withing the interdisciplinary framework in accordance with the patient care philosophy, objectives, and standards of the program. provide leadership to patients through the acquisition of new skills or the enhancement of skills they already possess.
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients' treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Required are strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Basic Cardiac Life Support – health Care Provider (BCLS – HLP) required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in rehabilitation setting for individuals with serious mental illnesses desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience in facilitating psycho-educational groups/workshops an asset.
