About the Role
Evolta Electric is seeking a skilled Controls Installation Technician to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the low voltage wiring and installation of building automation systems (BAS) across commercial and institutional projects. This role involves hands-on work with a variety of mechanical equipment and control devices, ensuring systems are properly wired, terminated, and commissioned to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, wire, and terminate low voltage control devices including VAV box controllers, fan coil unit controllers, thermostats, sensors, and actuators, etc.
- Route and pull low voltage cabling (twisted pair, shielded cable, CAT5/6, etc.) in accordance with project drawings and specifications
- Mount and wire field controllers, input/output modules, and network-level controllers to mechanical equipment such as air handling units, rooftop units, boilers, chillers, and pumps
- Read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and mechanical plans
- Perform point-to-point checkout and verification of wired devices prior to system commissioning
- Coordinate with mechanical contractors, general contractors, and other trades to ensure proper installation sequencing
- Label all wiring, devices, and panels in accordance with company standards and project documentation
- Troubleshoot wiring and device issues in the field and perform repairs as needed
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with all applicable codes and safety regulations
- Document completed work, report progress, and communicate any field issues to the project lead
Qualifications
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in low voltage wiring, building automation, or HVAC controls installation
- Familiarity with BAS components including VAV controllers, fan coil controllers, temperature sensors, pressure sensors, humidity sensors, actuators, and relays
- Ability to read and work from electrical and control drawings
- Working knowledge of low voltage wiring practices and applicable codes
- Comfortable working from ladders, lifts, and in mechanical rooms
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team
Assets
- Experience with major BAS platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Distech, Tridium/Niagara)
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, or LON
- Electrical trade experience or relevant college diploma/certificate
- Working at Heights and WHMIS certifications
