We’re looking for a Lead Hand Carpenter / Site Supervisor who can independently run small commercial projects while coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and site operations with general guidance from the Project Manager.
Role Overview
This role combines hands‑on carpentry with site leadership, mostly on commercial projects. You will take ownership of day‑to‑day site operations, ensure work is completed safely and according to design and scope, and maintain strong communication with subcontractors, suppliers, and the project manager. This position is ideal for someone who is experienced, reliable, and comfortable managing small commercial projects from start to finish.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day site operations for small commercial projects
- Perform carpentry tasks, general construction work, and site layout as required
- Coordinate and direct subcontractors, suppliers, and other site personnel
- Maintain site safety, housekeeping, and compliance with company standards
- Track project progress, maintain daily records, and communicate updates to the Project Manager
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction details
- Assist with scheduling, material planning, and site logistics
- Support project closeout (as‑builts, O&M manuals, deficiency lists)
- Ensure work is completed per design, on schedule, and within scope
- Represent the company professionally with clients, inspectors, and consultants
Qualifications and Experience
- Preferred with 5+ years of experience in commercial or institutional construction
- Strong carpentry skills and ability to perform hands‑on work
- Experience running small projects or acting as a lead hand and assist with some supervisor tasks
- Ability to coordinate subcontractors and manage site activities independently
- Solid understanding of construction principles, safety practices, and building methods
- Ability to read plans, interpret details, and solve on‑site problems
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Proficiency with basic digital tools (email, photos, daily logs)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
- Clear verbal and written communication in English is required for coordination, documentation, and safety.
