We design, build, and support PLC/HMI systems, control panels, and electrical infrastructure for drilling rigs and related equipment, working with major operators and drilling contractors across Western Canada and beyond.
About the Role
We're hiring both Apprentice and Journeyman Electricians to join our team. Work includes electrical installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance on drilling rigs and associated equipment, split between our Nisku shop and field service at client sites and rig locations. Travel is maintenance-based, tied to service calls and scheduled work rather than fixed rotations. Apprentices will work under the direct supervision of Journeyman electricians, with opportunities to log hours toward ticket completion.
Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems on drilling rigs, including motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, and control panels
- Perform wiring, terminations, and testing per electrical code and client specifications
- Diagnose and resolve electrical faults on-site, including PLC/HMI-integrated systems, in coordination with our controls team
- Complete field service reports (FSRs) documenting work performed, root cause findings, and corrective actions
- Work safely in oilfield environments, following site-specific safety protocols and Neutron's HSE standards
- Travel to rig sites and client yards as needed for maintenance and service calls
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers on installation and commissioning projects
- (Apprentices) Work under Journeyman supervision, logging hours and building toward Red Seal certification
Requirements — Journeyman
- Alberta Journeyman Electrician certification (Red Seal preferred)
- Any experience in an oilfield/industrial setting; drilling rig experience an asset
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, motor controls, and troubleshooting methodology
Requirements — Apprentice
- Registered apprentice (any year) with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training, or eligible/willing to register
- Willingness to work toward Red Seal certification while gaining hands-on oilfield experience
Requirements — Both
- Valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and site-specific safety orientations (e.g., PST, H2S Alive, First Aid)
- Comfortable working in remote locations and variable weather conditions
Assets
- Experience with drawworks, top drive, or MCC systems
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms
- Rigid Piping in industrial environments
