We are currently looking to add a Paint & Prep Technician to our growing production team.
Position Overview
The Paint & Prep Technician is responsible for preparing and finishing custom signage components to meet quality and production standards. This role involves surface preparation, paint booth support, and (experience‑dependent) spray application.
Candidates may be considered at junior, intermediate, or senior levels, with responsibilities and compensation aligned after the interview based on experience and ability.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare custom signage components by sanding, masking, cleaning, and correcting surface defects
- Perform surface preparation on all supplied materials to ensure proper readiness for painting
- Read and follow shop drawings, specifications, and work instructions
- Assist with paint booth setup, operation, and cleanup
- Hang, stage, and move components between prep, paint, drying, and other departments
- Apply paints and coatings using air or spray guns (based on experience level)
- Mix paints and coatings according to instructions from senior staff or supervisors
- Identify and troubleshoot common prep and paint issues such as contamination or surface defects
- Perform in‑process quality checks before and after coating to ensure finishes meet company standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe prep area, paint booth, and surrounding workspace
- Properly handle, store, and dispose of paints, chemicals, tools, and materials in accordance with safety regulations
- Work closely with fabrication and assembly teams to support production flow
- Follow all safety policies and PPE requirements related to coatings, chemicals, and equipment
- Maintain required training and certifications
- Complete other duties as assigned to support operational needs
Qualifications
- Experience in paint preparation, industrial painting, signage, fabrication, automotive finishing, or a related field preferred
- Comfortable using sanding and prep tools; spray experience considered an asset
- Ability to read drawings and follow written instructions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Reliable, punctual, and safety‑focused
- Ability to work independently or under supervision depending on task complexity
- Physically capable of standing for long periods and handling signage components
