The Health & Safety Coordinator promotes a culture of safety by supporting the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and Management. This role serves as the central point for administrative support, project coordination, and regulatory compliance to ensure a safe environment for all staff and students.
Key Responsibilities:
· Support the JHSC by scheduling meetings, recording minutes, tracking action plans, and onboarding new committee members.
· Maintain all H&S documentation, including incident reports, hazard reports, and updated Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
· Prepare administrative deliverables such as H&S budgets, monthly statistical reports, and drafts for new policies or procedures.
· Coordinate and conduct workplace inspections, ensuring all identified hazards are addressed and company standards are met.
· Act as the primary liaison with the Ministry of Labour, ensuring all orders are completed and communicated to stakeholders.
· Investigate workplace accidents and injuries, conducting thorough risk assessments to prevent future occurrences.
· Facilitate safety-training programs (e.g., First Aid, Ladder Safety, and PPE) and maintain a tracking matrix for staff certifications.
· Develop and research safety procedures for Fire Planning, Disaster Response, Infection Control, and Hazardous Waste disposal.
· Distribute safety updates to staff and students, collaborating with the Residence Team on fire safety and student awareness.
· Manage PPE requirements, assessing employee needs and coordinating orders with the purchasing department.
· Monitor the weather and be a part of the decision process on determining snow days.
· Oversee environmental safety; including monitoring renovation projects and participating in weather-related decision-making (e.g., snow days).
· Ensure operational compliance for ice/snow removal and other facility-related safety tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
· Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
· Proven experience in a safety coordination role, ideally within an educational or multi-use facility.
· Strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Ministry of Labour regulations.
· JHSC Certification (Part 1 & 2) is highly preferred; First Aid/CPR certification is required.
· Excellent administrative organization and clear communication skills.
· Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends as per operational needs.
· Ability to work between different occupied and non-occupied facilities.
· Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.
