As a Senior Product Designer for FME Flow, you'll closely collaborate with product management and software development to create intuitive, effective solutions for complex technical workflows. Your design work will span the full lifecycle, from discovery and ideation through to polished delivery, including planning and conducting the user research needed to validate your decisions.
You'll produce a wide range of design artifacts to explore, define, and validate solutions, and you'll contribute to our design culture by engaging thoughtfully with peers, while remaining curious and open to new ways of working, including actively experimenting with AI to improve your efficiency, output, and strategic thinking.
We have an immediate opening and are excited to find the right candidate to join our team.
As part of the FME Flow team, you'll join a cross-functional group of product managers, software developers, and designers who work closely together to shape one of Safe Software's core products. We value collaboration, open feedback, and shared ownership. You'll play a key role in ensuring design excellence and human-centered thinking are embedded throughout the product development process.
As a Senior Product Designer, you will:
Own the end-to-end design process for product initiatives, from collaborating on opportunity framing, discovery workshops, concept development to final design handoff and QA.
Collaborate with product managers and technical stakeholders to scope features, align on vision, and contribute to roadmap decisions.
Champion the human-centered design process, including securing the right data needed to validate decisions, and build alignment for that approach across stakeholders at every level.
Clearly communicate your rationale when a solution warrants quick, tactical action (e.g., UI refinements, interaction polish) versus when to invest in deeper research and iterative design cycles.
Partner with technical stakeholders and domain experts to deeply understand highly technical workflows and distill them into intuitive, user-centered solutions.
Deliver a wide range of design artifacts that incorporate AI, including:
User flows, journey maps, storyboards, and diagrams to model workflows and key handoff points.
Low-fidelity sketches, wireframes, or rapid prototypes to collaboratively explore ideas and discuss tradeoffs.
Diagrams to identify and address edge cases for highly technical workflows.
Hi-fidelity mockups and design specs/documentation
Gather the right customer data and/or execute user research (e.g., usability testing, semi-structured interviews) to ensure proposed designs meet customer expectations.
Take a hands-on role maintaining and evolving our design system, including creating, refining, and documenting reusable components and patterns, and ensuring it's structured to support AI-assisted design and development.
Continuously look for ways to optimize the design pipeline, tooling, and collaboration practices through experimentation with emerging technologies, including AI.
Collaborate with cross-team stakeholders to align on accessibility considerations and UX standards across FME Flow and the broader FME platform.
Support design quality at scale by contributing to documentation, guidelines, and best practices.

A clear, confident design point of view, with the ability to make the case for human-centered process and evidence-based decisions to stakeholders at any level.
AI fluency: a demonstrated mindset of curiosity toward AI, hands-on experimentation with it in your design process (research synthesis, prototyping, generation), and the judgment to know where it adds value.
Hands-on experience leveraging customer data, insights , and research to inform key design decisions.
Hands-on experience maintaining and evolving a design system, including optimizing components and patterns for AI-assisted workflows.
Experience designing complex workflows or tools for developers, analysts, data engineers, or other technical users.
Comfortable engaging in technical conversations, synthesizing technical information, and incorporating it into human-centered designs.
Desired skills / Bonus points:
Familiarity with automation, scheduling, and event-driven workflows (e.g., triggers, webhooks, job queuing, notifications) to better design for how and when users interact with automated systems.
An understanding of server and cloud-based platforms and how they differ from desktop tools—particularly how web-based interfaces support both admin/operator and self-serve end-user experiences.
Ability to interpret workflows involving REST APIs, data integrations, or orchestration pipelines, and translate that complexity into intuitive product experiences.
Bonus: Familiarity with concepts like role-based access control, job monitoring dashboards, or self-serve data portals to better empathize with FME Flow's diverse user roles.
