We are looking for an experienced and passionate Cook to help support our team. The ideal candidate for this position has previous experience preparing multi-cultural cuisine and enjoys working in a busy restaurant environment. A successful candidate will have restaurant industry experience, a passion for food prep and strong customer service skills.
The Cook prepares the food for each meal as outlined on the menu, utilizing the standardized recipes. This individual is responsible for ensuring that the food is prepared in proper manner and presented to the residents in a palatable and appetizing appearance.
Responsibilities:
1. Preparation of high quality, tasty meals according to the posted menu and following the standardized recipes with attention to portion control.
2. Oversees and assists with the service of food, ensuring resident food preferences are respected.
3. Ensures that all dietary functions are performed in a clean, sanitary manner according to regulations.
4. Assists in control of food costs and wastage.
5. Recommends and institutes change in technique or procedure for more efficient operation.
6. Relieves Director of Food Services on days off and performs necessary related duties as determined appropriate.
7. Assists in the orientation and training of new dietary personnel.
8. Inspects food supplies and determines what quantities of food should be reordered and communicates this to supervisor.
9. Attends in-service to better understand the dietary needs of the residents.
10. Attends staff meetings as required to be aware of changes in the facility.
11. Is aware and endeavors to respect and promote the Resident Rights and Responsibilities.
12. Participates in the Quality Improvement Program.
13. Performs other duties and functions as required.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to concentrate in an environment that provides constant interruption and change
- Lifting alone, maximum 40 lbs. (5-25 lbs. usual) as a non-essential job function
- Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs. (100-125 usual) as an essential job function.
- Pushing/pulling, maximum 100 lbs. (20-50 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
- Stretching/reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as an essential job function.
- Walking, with possibility of some upstairs walking (1-2 hours usual), as an essential job function.
- Standing, for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2- hours usual), as an essential job function.
- Crouching/kneeling for short periods of time as a non-essential job function.
