MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Masters degree in a related study area.
- or -
- Bachelors degree or completion of a Community College course in a related discipline (e.g. Community Health Sciences) with three years = directly-related experience.
EXPIERENCE:
- Formal training in implementation science and/or quality improvement is required, including completion of Quality Improvement courses within the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
- At least 18 months of experience successfully applying implementation science principles in a complex healthcare setting is required. Examples include:
- Experience coordinating all phases of implementation and quality improvement projects from planning through evaluation.
- Experience assessing organizational and site readiness for change and implementation.
- Experience recruiting, engaging, and supporting frontline healthcare providers and stakeholders in quality improvement initiatives.
- Experience coordinating iterative testing and implementation of change initiatives using Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support implementation and practice change.
- Experience developing, monitoring, and interpreting intervention, implementation and quality improvement metrics to evaluate outcomes and inform decision-making.
- At least two years of experience successfully coordinating projects focusing on older adult health care is required.
- Experience engaging with health professionals/stakeholders in the Manitoba health care system is required
- Specialized training in older adult health care is preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must have demonstrated working knowledge of implementation science principles, both from a theoretical perspective and in their successful application is required.
- Must have demonstrated ability to coordinate day-to-day aspects of large-scale implementation science research projects, in their entirety is required.
- Must have demonstrated working knowledge of applied health services research approaches is required.
- Must have demonstrated ability to collect, organize, analyze, and summarize research data (quantitative and qualitative) is required.
- Must have the ability to engage effectively with scientific personnel, take general research constructs, and operationalize them into tangible plans is required.
- Must have the ability to critically assess and summarize scientific literature is required.
- Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills are required.
- Must have strong problem-solving skills is required.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in a variety of mediums is required.

- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
OTHER JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Many SOARR initiatives are time-sensitive. We are looking for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, non-traditional research environment (e.g. a combination of office and field work responsibilities which may involve evening work). Due to the time-sensitive nature of the SOARR program, prior experience with the Manitoba-based SOARR program is considered a strong asset. Candidates with demonstrated experience coordinating comparable implementation, quality improvement, and change management initiatives in complex healthcare settings will also be considered.
- Demonstrated academic writing abilities (e.g. publications) an asset.
- Support and play a lead role in enacting all operational aspects of innovations reflecting key implementation science principles discussed in the previous text (e.g., readiness for change, PDSA cycles, IHI guidelines, measurement), while also building on lessons from previous SHIFT innovation experiences.
- Coordinate day-to-day aspects of select research initiatives (broadly focused on implementation science within the older adult healthcare sector), in their entirety.
- Develop operational and evaluation tools that reflect implementation science theory (e.g. surveys, focus group guides, recruitment materials, tracking forms, promotional materials, etc.)
- Document study procedures and take the lead in developing research protocols
- Critically examine existing scientific literature and/or previous study learnings to inform project development
- Prepare and submit ethics and related approval applications, including related study documentation (i.e. protocols, consent forms, etc.)
- Ensure approval board requirements are adhered to throughout study duration.
- Ensure that standard operating procedures are being followed and that confidential data is being collected and stored in accordance with ethical protocols.
- Coordinate and implement site/participant recruitment process, acting as point of contact for participants - Enact and monitor data collection plans; take a lead role in data collection activities (e.g. taking field notes, distributing surveys, conducting focus groups, etc.)
- Provide regular updates to the research team on project progress (i.e. areas of success, potential areas of challenge) and work with them to ensure that timelines are met.
- Troubleshoot project challenges, provide suggestions and move-forward strategies as needed to help inform study direction.
- Ensure fidelity to data collection plans while organizing/cleaning data for ease of future use
- Work with the research team to develop data analysis plans and prepare the data accordingly (e.g. creating and inputting quantitative data into matrices using Excel and/or SPSS; ensuring transcription of qualitative data files and organizing using NVivo, etc.)
- Assist in the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data using the appropriate software (e.g. SPSS, NVivo)
- Work with the research team to interpret the data; take a lead in summarizing data.
- Play a lead role in program knowledge translation activities (e.g. developing and delivering materials/reports; planning and delivering webinars)
- Assist in the planning and delivery of key workshops and events by arranging logistics, preparing materials, communicating with participants, and documenting as needed.
- Ensure that study activities and findings are accurately captured in operational documents
- Support publication planning by coordinating meetings, critically examining scientific literature, working with co-authors to develop study outlines, and generally supporting writing
- Engage with key study team members working on affiliated and international projects to ensure alignment and awareness of activities
- Using learnings from previous research and scientific literature, advise the research team on potential future directions.
- Help the P.I. to ensure that project activities align with health system priorities
- Provide support P.I. in the development and delivery of materials to the Executive Advisory Board
- Engage with various researchers and stakeholders to arrange meetings; ensure accurate documentation at meetings.
- Assist with event arrangements (e.g. venue and catering bookings, supporting travel needs of guests, preparing slides and materials, etc.).
- May be required to preform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
