Job Profile: Temporary Financial Reporting Accountant

Role Summary
The Temporary Financial Reporting Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of balance sheet accounts, preparing and filing Canadian indirect tax returns, and supporting month‑end close processes. This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with Canadian tax regulations and delivering reliable financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations including:
- Cash and bank accounts
- Accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Prepaid expenses and accruals
- Payroll, statutory, and intercompany accounts
- Fixed assets and amortization schedules
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies, aged items, and reconciling differences promptly
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation standards
- Support internal and external audit requests related to balance sheet accounts
Sales Tax & Indirect Tax Compliance (Canada)
- Prepare, review, and file Canadian sales tax returns, including:
- GST/HST
- PST (BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, etc.)
- QST (Quebec)
- Reconcile sales tax payable and receivable accounts to general ledger balances
- Ensure timely remittance of taxes and accuracy of supporting documentation
Month‑End & Financial Close Support
- Assist with month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close activities
- Prepare journal entries related to accruals, taxes, and adjustments
- Support preparation of working papers and financial statements
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Diploma in Accounting
- Ideal for someone working toward CPA
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in:
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- General ledger accounting
- Canadian sales tax reporting (GST/HST, PST, QST)
- Experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or shared services is an asset
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (Dynamics SL, QBO)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation models)
- Knowledge of CRA and provincial tax authority filing requirements

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
