Our client is a fast-growing manufacturing group operating multiple specialized production facilities across North America. As part of its continued growth and procurement transformation, the organization is seeking a Commodity Manager to lead the sourcing strategy for metal commodities across all business units.
This is a highly visible strategic role where your decisions will directly influence cost competitiveness, supply continuity, and overall supply chain performance.
Your Role
Reporting to the Strategic Sourcing Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving the sourcing strategy for metal commodities, including steel, aluminum, castings, extrusions, and sheet metal components.
You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing teams across multiple sites to optimize costs, secure supply, and build long-term strategic supplier partnerships.
This position combines strategic thinking, technical knowledge, and strong influencing skills.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute sourcing strategies for various metal commodity categories.
Analyze enterprise-wide spend to identify consolidation opportunities and cost-saving initiatives.
Lead commercial negotiations and establish long-term agreements with domestic and international suppliers.
Support manufacturing sites in implementing sourcing strategies and procurement best practices.
Partner with Engineering teams to improve manufacturability and identify cost reduction opportunities early in the product design process.
Evaluate supplier capabilities, manufacturing processes, capital investments, and overall performance.
Monitor steel and aluminum market trends to anticipate risks, pricing fluctuations, and supply constraints.
Develop and maintain a high-performing supplier network while implementing relevant supplier performance metrics.
Lead supplier performance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers to support new product development programs.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing or Commodity Management within a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of metal manufacturing processes such as castings, extrusions, sheet metal fabrication, machining, or metal forming.
Proven experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and managing strategic supplier contracts.
Experience working in a multi-site and/or matrix organization.
Solid knowledge of global sourcing strategies and international supply markets.
Ability to read engineering drawings and collaborate effectively with technical teams.
Strong analytical, negotiation, project management, and problem-solving skills.
Professional proficiency in both French and English (regular interaction with international suppliers and stakeholders).
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
