Since 2018 Boreal has worked with the CNE to deliver broad agriculture focused education through an immersive exhibit located within the Farm Building (Better Living Centre) on the Exhibition Grounds. The space demonstrates a number of urban agriculture systems, technologies and information, including an aquaponics demonstration as a viable and sustainable methodology to grow food.
Your position will play an important role in making sure that this activation is interactive, engaging, and educational for people visiting the CNE.
The CNE runs from August 21st to September 7th (18 days). Because of this, shifts to work will only be during these days. There is a mandatory paid half-day of training day prior to August 21st.
Work Shifts
Each employee is expected to be available to work 14 out of the 18 days. It is mandatory that every employee work one full weekend. Shifts will vary in length between the hours of 10:00am-10:00pm.
Responsibilities
- Arrive on time for your shift
- Set up activity stations around the space
- Periodically perform demonstrations to visitors
- Engage/ Educate visitors and present basic Urban Agriculture information
- Monitor the aquatic and plant health in the demonstration
- Ensure that the space is clean, maintained and presentable at all times
- Answer and/ or direct questions to available resources regarding Urban Agriculture
- Ability to travel to the CNE farm building and arrive on time
Who are you?
A friendly person who is comfortable talking to people and can communicate with a variety of age levels. You must be responsible, accountable, energetic, patient, adaptable, able to work under light supervision, self motivating and a team player.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age requirement of 17 years of age
- Fluent in English
- Interest in the environment, agriculture and agriculture related topics. Preference given to those with knowledge of aquaponics, hydroponics and traditional agriculture.
- Available to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends
Special Conditions
- Ability to stand or remain in stationary position for long periods of time
- Located in a busy area; constant interruptions
- Must be comfortable working around animals and barnyard smells
