Job Summary:
The Transfer Station & Shop Operations Support role is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Transfer Station (Cavanagh Rd). This position focuses on maintaining site efficiency, assisting customers and drivers, operating and servicing heavy equipment, and ensuring the site remains safe, organized, and compliant with operational standards. This role also supports the Shop (133 White Rd) by assisting with general maintenance tasks
Key Responsibilities
Transfer Station Operations
- Support daily operations to ensure safe and efficient material handling
- Direct public and commercial vehicles to designated unloading areas and manage traffic flow to ensure efficient movement of vehicles
- Identify and report prohibited, hazardous or improperly sorted materials
· Operate heavy equipment, including loaders, excavators, roll-off trucks, to load, unload, move, and stage materials.
· Perform routine equipment maintenance, including refuelling, fluid checks, lubrication, and minor repairs as required.
- Monitor incoming loads for compliance with site and environmental requirements
- Perform general labour duties including sorting, loading, and site clean-up
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard and working areas
Shop / Fleet Support
- Assist the Shop Keeper & Fleet Maintenance Coordinator with daily shop operations, including organizing tools, parts, and materials
- Support basic maintenance tasks (e.g., inspections, fluid checks, cleaning equipment) as directed
- Coordinate and track parts inventory and assist with ordering as required
- Prepare vehicles and equipment for service, repair, and deployment
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and yard
Health & Safety
- Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures
- Promote a safe work environment for staff, customers, and contractors
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirements
Qualifications
- Experience in a transfer station, waste management, yard, or industrial environment is an asset
- Strong awareness of safety practices in an operational environment
- Ability to perform physical labour and work in outdoor conditions
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Reliable, organized, and able to work independently
Requirements
- Valid G driver’s licence (DZ considered an asset)
- Ability to lift heavy materials and perform physically demanding tasks
- Flexibility to work varying hours, including early mornings and weekends if required
