As a member of the Calibration & Lab team, the Engineering Technician - Optical will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support for all engineering laboratories. Working closely with engineering specialists and technicians, the Engineering Technician - Optical will primarily be responsible for ensuring the overall functionality and smooth operation of the various engineering lab environments throughout the Montreal facility.
As an Engineering Technician - Optical, your key responsibilities include:
- Ensure that test and measurement equipment is always within specifications by coordinating the flow of equipment to and from the Calibration Laboratory;
- Act as a first-line responder for simple technical support requests. This may involve replacement or repair of faulty equipment and cables in complex test systems, or providing assistance with setup reconfiguration;
- Support for software installations and upgrades, as well as essential computer configurations;
- Maintenance and support of peripheral equipment such as computers, soldering stations, as well as the replenishment of consumables;
- Obtaining estimates, handling procurement, and supporting equipment deployment for faulty asset replacement or repair, single equipment acquisitions, and calibrations to be done by external suppliers;
- Equipment asset tracking and inventory;
- Installation and testing of ESD monitors;
- Enforcing compliance to Health & Safety requirements;
- Assist with lab moves, layout reconfigurations and 5S initiatives;
- Physically move equipment from engineering labs to calibration lab for calibration;
- When required, may be asked to perform preventive maintenance on test equipment;
- May be required to lift loads from 23 to 55 pounds a few times a month;
- May be required on occasion: Assembly of test stations and bench testing under the supervision of another team member;
- Other tasks in support of the Engineering and/or calibration team.
How to excel in this role:
- College diploma in Electrical Technology or equivalent in a relevant field;
- 2 years minimum of work experience with different types of electrical test and measurement equipment;
- Good communication and strong interpersonal skills; French required, bilingualism an assset;
