Construction Inspector
Location: Greater Toronto Area (Field-Based)
Job Type: Full-Time Contract
Hours: 36.25 hours per week (occasional overtime may be required)
Our client in the public sector is seeking a Construction Inspector to support the inspection and oversight of ongoing capital construction projects across a network of transit facilities, including stations, bus terminals, and related infrastructure. This is a highly field-oriented role requiring travel to multiple active construction sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area, often visiting 2–3 locations per day.
The successful candidate will provide inspection services and limited contract administration support to ensure projects are delivered safely, in compliance with contract requirements, and to established quality standards while minimizing impacts to the public and facility users.
- Conduct field inspections of construction activities to verify compliance with contract drawings, specifications, standards, and applicable legislation.

Monitor contractor activities at active construction sites and ensure work is completed according to approved plans and quality requirements.

Maintain accurate field records, daily inspection reports, deficiency logs, and other project documentation.

Identify deficiencies, track corrective actions, and verify timely resolution of outstanding issues.

Review design drawings and contract documents to identify constructability concerns, operational impacts, and potential risks prior to construction.

Assess existing site conditions and document asset conditions before construction activities commence.

Participate in operational readiness reviews, substantial completion inspections, and project closeout activities.

Verify as-built information and support asset handover processes.

Review contractor work plans and ensure appropriate risk mitigation measures are implemented onsite.

Participate in design reviews and provide input regarding construction staging, accessibility, customer impacts, safety considerations, and site logistics.

Liaise with contractors, consultants, project teams, and internal stakeholders to facilitate successful project delivery.

Support the administration of contracts by assisting with change orders, claims management, contractor performance monitoring, and resolution of contractual issues.

Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, environmental requirements, and organizational policies and procedures.

Escalate complex field issues and provide recommendations to project leadership as required.
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.

Minimum 5 years of experience in construction inspection, design, contract administration, or project delivery related to infrastructure, transportation, municipal, or public-sector projects.

Experience working on active construction sites involving civil, architectural, or transit-related infrastructure.

Working knowledge of construction methods and materials, including:
- Concrete installation and repair

Pavement construction and rehabilitation

Reinforcing steel (rebar)

Site servicing and general civil works
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and contract documents.

Familiarity with construction quality assurance processes and deficiency management.

Understanding of relevant provincial legislation and standards, including:
- Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)

Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS)

Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD)

MTO Book 7 requirements

Environmental regulations applicable to construction projects
- Knowledge of standard construction contracts (e.g., CCDC) is considered an asset.

Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple site visits and competing priorities.

Strong written communication skills with experience preparing inspection reports and documenting field observations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- This is a field-based position requiring regular travel to construction sites located throughout the Greater Toronto Area, from the east to west regions.

Inspectors should expect to visit approximately 2–3 sites per day.

A valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and access to a reliable personal vehicle are required.

Mileage reimbursement is not provided.

Standard work hours are 36.25 hours per week; however, occasional overtime may be required to support project schedules, inspections outside of regular business hours, or operational requirements.
