You must be available to work both 7am to 3:30pm and 3:30pm to 12am on a rotating basis to ensure Production is not down at any given time.
Purpose and Scope
Cancoil Industrial Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems and machinery in the manufacturing facility. This role ensures reliable operation of production equipment, supports new equipment installation and relocation, and maintains compliance with safety standards while optimizing equipment performance and uptime.
Organization Relationship
Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and works closely with other maintenance staff, including electrical and general maintenance technicians, as well as production personnel. Coordinates with engineering teams for equipment installation and process optimization.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily in a manufacturing or industrial environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving machinery.
- Requires standing, walking, climbing, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- May require working at heights, in confined spaces, or using hoisting equipment.
- On-call or overtime may be required to respond to equipment breakdowns.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection is required.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Installation & Equipment Handling
- Install, align, dismantle, and relocate industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to plans, blueprints, and schematics.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, and upgrades of new manufacturing equipment.
- Provide technical expertise and support during equipment installations or modifications.
- Maintain tool and spares inventory to ensure minimal downtime.
2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure machinery operates efficiently, including high-speed mechanical presses with progressive dies and other metal-forming pneumatic and hydraulic machines equipped with CNC and PLC-based HMI.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues on systems ranging from 24V to 600V.
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems.
- Operate machine tools such as lathes, grinders, and welding equipment to fabricate parts as needed.
3. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all mechanical work complies with workplace safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Adhere to all workplace safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, and promote a culture of safety across the facility.
- Collaborate with other team members and departments to minimize downtime and improve overall operations.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation of all work performed using CMMS systems.
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives related to mechanical reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- 3–5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience with high-speed stamping presses or similar metal-forming equipment is required.
- Diploma or degree in Tool & Die Making or equivalent.
- Trade certification (Millwright, Mechanical Technician) is considered an asset but not required.
- Strong knowledge of production machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, presses, conveyors, and mechanical equipment.
- Skilled in alignment, fabrication, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Familiarity with safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
