Factor Geotechnical Ltd. is seeking a motivated Geotechnical Technician to join our field services team. This is a hands-on role supporting active construction and infrastructure projects across the Calgary region and surrounding areas, working closely with our engineering staff to deliver quality construction materials testing and geotechnical inspection services.
About the Role
You'll be on-site across a variety of residential, commercial, and municipal projects, performing field testing and monitoring to verify that construction meets design and specification requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Compaction testing — perform nuclear density gauge testing, Proctor testing, and field density verification on backfill, subgrade, and structural fill
- Concrete testing — conduct slump tests, air content testing, temperature checks, cylinder sampling, and coordinate compressive strength testing in accordance with CSA/ASTM standards
- Pile monitoring — observe and document pile installation (driven, helical, or auger cast), verify installation records against design criteria, and log field conditions
- Maintain accurate, detailed field notes and daily reports
- Communicate professionally with site contractors, superintendents, and clients
With Experience, May Also Include
- Basic engineering inspections (foundation excavations, subgrade approvals, retaining wall backfill, drainage installations)
- Supporting senior technologists and engineers with site assessments
- Assisting with report review and QA/QC documentation
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent field experience
- TDG
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (work vehicle will be provided for field assignments)
- Comfortable working outdoors in variable weather and on active construction sites
- Strong attention to detail and clear written communication
- Prior experience in geotechnical or materials testing
