About the Role
The Heavy Duty Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing TwinCon's fleet of heavy civil construction equipment and support vehicles. The successful candidate will play a key role in maximizing equipment uptime and ensuring safe, reliable operations across all projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance following manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diesel systems.
- Inspect equipment to identify faults, malfunctions, and worn components.
- Replace or repair defective parts using appropriate tools and procedures.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance and compliance with specifications.
- Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, including work orders, parts usage, and service reports.
- Assist with developing and implementing maintenance plans to improve uptime and reduce breakdowns.
- Monitor shop inventory for filters, lubricants, wear parts, and consumables.
- Communicate major or unexpected repairs with the Supervisor or Fleet Manager.
- Ensure shop cleanliness, organization, and proper tool/equipment maintenance.
- Support other mechanics and collaborate with operators and supervisors.
- Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Certification.
- Experience with excavators, loaders, skid steers, articulated trucks, drills, and related equipment is considered an asset.
- Experience repairing and maintaining heavy civil construction equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, articulated trucks, drills, trailers, and support equipment is preferred.
- Strong diagnostic ability with hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and service manuals.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract (Class 1–3 an asset).
- Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, working in varied positions, and performing physical tasks as required.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to recognize problems, evaluate situations, and implement effective solutions.
- Computer literacy for completing work orders and using service software.
- Positive, proactive, hands-on attitude with strong teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work extended hours when required.
- Apprentices with the right experience will also be considered.
