Key Responsibilities
- Project Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with Project Managers (PMs) to set up initial project budgets and cost codes. Monitor actual expenditures against the budget and update monthly cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Cost Tracking & WIP Analysis: Track project costs (labor, materials, subcontracts), run Work-in-Progress (WIP) calculations, and conduct variance analyses to flag potential cost overruns early.
- Subcontractor & Billing Management: Review subcontractor progress claims and Schedules of Values (SOV). Manage statutory holdbacks (retainage) and track Statutory Declarations (Stat Decs) to ensure compliance with local legislation (such as the Builders Lien Act).
- Full-Cycle Accounting & Month-End Close: Oversee daily transactions (AP, AR, Payroll), manage bank reconciliations, and own the month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing adjusting journal entries and accruals.
- Financial Reporting: Independently prepare corporate financial statements (Balance Sheets, Income Statements, and Cash Flow Statements) and compile internal management reports.
- Intercompany Transactions: Reconcile intercompany balances, manage transfer pricing adjustments, and assist with consolidated financial reporting for multi-entity corporate structures.
- Tax Compliance & Remittances: Prepare and file provincial and federal tax returns (such as GST/PST/HST), manage corporate tax filings (T2), and oversee payroll-related remittances (WCB, employer health taxes).
- Audit Preparation: Build and maintain detailed year-end working papers to facilitate smooth external audits or tax reviews.
- Payroll Management and Employer Compliance Coordination: Calculate payroll for all employees and labourers, including reimbursements and allowances. Coordinate payroll and tax documentation during employee onboarding and prepare and submit Records of Employment during offboarding.
- Company Account Management:Manage multiple corporate accounts, including WorkSafeBC, CRA, and Service Canada accounts. Monitor account activities, take required actions in a timely manner, and report significant matters to management as needed.
- Team Mentorship: Provide guidance to junior accountants, project clerks, , ensuring internal controls are strictly followed.
Qualifications
- At least five years experience in accounting, auditing, or related financial roles.
- Previous experiences working in accounting firm or construction company is an asset.
- Fluent in both Mandarin and English
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage risk effectively within a construction or development environment.
- Relevant certifications such as CPA are preferred.
Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
