About Hive Studio
Hive Studio is a growing design firm specializing in hospitality, commercial, retail, workplace, and mixed-use projects. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Architectural Technologist / Senior Design Technologist to join our team and play a key role in project delivery, technical documentation, and construction coordination.
Position Overview
The Senior Technologist will be responsible for developing comprehensive construction drawing packages, coordinating with consultants, ensuring compliance with the Ontario Building Code, and supporting projects from concept design through construction administration.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically proficient, and passionate about delivering exceptional design documentation and project execution.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and manage complete construction drawing packages.
* Develop detailed technical drawings, plans, elevations, sections, details, and specifications.
* Ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), accessibility standards, and municipal requirements.
* Coordinate drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, and other consultants.
* Assist project teams during permit application and approval processes.
* Conduct site measurements, field reviews, and site inspections.
* Review shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, and construction documentation.
* Participate in construction administration and site coordination meetings.
* Support design teams with technical solutions and detailing.
* Mentor junior technologists and contribute to quality control processes.
* Coordinate multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and deadlines.
Qualifications
Required
* Diploma or Degree in Architectural Technology, Building Technology, Architecture, or related field.
* Minimum 5–10 years of professional experience in architectural or interior design documentation.
* Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and accessibility requirements.
* Extensive experience preparing permit and construction drawing packages.
* Strong understanding of building systems, construction methods, and detailing.
* Experience coordinating with consultants and contractors.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Technical Skills
* Advanced proficiency in:
* Revit
* AutoCAD
* SketchUp
* Microsoft Office Suite
* Experience with:
* BIM workflows
* Construction documentation
* Building permit submissions
* Rendering software such as Enscape, Lumion, or Twinmotion (an asset)
Preferred
* BCIN qualification is considered a strong asset.
* Experience in hospitality, commercial, retail, restaurant, workplace, and mixed-use projects.
* Construction administration experience.
* Knowledge of municipal approval processes throughout Ontario.
