SweetTech Engineering Consultants is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Calgary team. The ideal candidate brings approximately 8 years of experience in civil engineering, with demonstrated depth in water resources, hydrotechnical design, drainage, and site servicing. You hold your P.Eng. designation in good standing with APEGA or EGBC and are ready to take meaningful ownership of projects from start to finish. This role involves leading technical work across a wide range of civil and water-related projects throughout Western Canada, including stormwater drainage, flood mitigation, water resource studies, and water management on mining and industrial development projects. You will work directly with the principals, take the lead on design and deliverables, mentor junior staff, and contribute to client relationships and business development. Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
- P.Eng. designation in good standing with APEGA or EGBC (required)
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in civil engineering, with demonstrated depth in water resources, drainage, and hydrotechnical design
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, coordinate with clients, and lead technical delivery with minimal supervision
- Experience in civil, hydrotechnical and municipal projects
- Demonstrated experience in water resources, drainage design, stormwater management, or flood mitigation
- Ability to travel to support projects
Assets
- Experience working in AB and BC municipalities
- Experience with land development including municipal and commercial projects
- Experience in underground utility design (storm, sanitary, water)
- Experience in cost estimating engineering projects and engineering consulting
- Tendering, contract administration, and construction management experience (BMS and MMCD)
- Experience with client coordination and communications
- Construction and constructability experience
- Familiarity with water management principles in the context of mining or industrial development
- Experience with erosion and sediment control (ESC) planning and implementation
- Familiarity with regulatory permitting and approvals in Alberta or British Columbia
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead technical delivery on civil and water resources projects, working collaboratively with principals and the senior civil technologist design lead
- Undertake analysis, design, development of drawings, review/sign and seal documents to support civil and municipal projects
- Lead development of construction specifications, compile public tender packages, and manage construction contract administration
- Conduct construction inspection and provide field engineering support during project execution
- Own project scheduling, budget tracking, and technical coordination across assigned files
- Review designs and drawings before Responsible Member sign-off and authentication
- Execute engineering studies including hydrotechnical assessments, drainage analyses, and water resources investigations
- Lead and contribute to proposal development, including scope definition, fee estimation, and technical writing
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to intermediate and junior engineers and technologists
- Communicate with co-workers, clients, and sub-consultants
